New challenge for unis to provide a COVID-safe work environment: podcast

The recent spike in Covid cases has left universities in a challenging position as they now have to create a safe and flexible environment for staff and students, as not everyone wants to return to a working from home arrangement. 

“It’s a complicated situation; how do you manage the needs of students and the responsibility to staff in regards to work and safety?" Associate Professor Jodi Oakman, head of the Centre for Ergonomics and Human Factors at La Trobe University, told Campus Review. 

Oakman believes that people might be experiencing the “flip side” of working from home as students and staff have enjoyed being on campus again. 

“This is challenging; it requires thinking about strong protection measures and the flexibility of staff needs as some might be more vulnerable than others.”

Oakman joined Campus Review to discuss the impact of working from home on the higher education sector as well as the necessity to have a communicative and trustful supervisor.
