Forgive me too for being cynical about the fact that there is no mention of the benefits of universities managing their own software, such as the fact that there is immediate and rapid response to implementing improvements as the need for them is identified, and that in-house software is usually much cheaper than commercial alternatives. There’s also the fundamental matter of better flexibility in particular context/purpose, and that the potential problems with relying on external agencies for support and security is obviated.

If and when institutions fail in their internal software implementation, the problem might not simply be that they didn’t buy something off the shelf, and that the answer is that they do so. Frankly, this piece reads like nothing more than a straightforward advertisement. There’s already enough of that in the sidebar without camouflaging it as ‘content’.
