Parfitt Newcastle deputy VC

Professor Andrew Parfitt has been appointed deputy vice-chancellor (academic) at the University of Newcastle. Parfitt is currently pro vice-chancellor and vice-president of the Faculty of IT, Engineering and the Environment at the University of South Australia, a position he has held since 2007. His career highlights include leading the Co-operative Research Centre for Satellite Systems, the national research group responsible for launching FedSat, which was Australia’s first satellite in 30 years. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Adelaide, and has held adjunct academic positions at UniSA, the University of Adelaide, the University of Sydney and Macquarie University. Parfitt is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and has been chair of both its South Australia and NSW sections. He is chair of the Australian Academy of Science National Committee for Radio Science, a fellow of Engineers Australia, and a board member of the Defence Teaming Centre and the Technology Industry Association. He will commence his new role in January.
