Chief justice returns to law school

The former South Australian Supreme Court chief justice, John Doyle QC, will return to his alma mater, the University of Adelaide as an adjunct professor in the Law School. Doyle graduated from the university in 1966 and was the 1967 Rhodes Scholar for South Australia. In 1986 he was appointed to the position of South Australia’s solicitor-general where he appeared regularly before the Supreme Court and the High Court. As one of the nation’s leading advocates he presented a number of ground breaking and highly persuasive arguments before the High Court on behalf of South Australia. In May 1995, he was appointed SA chief justice, a position he held until his retirement in June this year. He was a driving force behind the establishment of the National Judicial College of Australia and has written numerous articles on various aspects of the law. He has a strong commitment to legal education and was a part-time lecturer at the Adelaide Law School while at the bar.
